I’m a big fan of musical performance and fine arts, so when a friend informed me that here will be a ballet performance in town about star crossed lovers, a mad inventor and a life sized doll, I was pretty much delighted. Hmmm… ballet, I’ve never been to a ballet performance before and thought that it’s a high time that I do so and introduce fine arts to my kid.
Coppelia, a romantic comedy that will enchant the hearts of the young and old, will be staged right here in the Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur this 6 & 7, July 2013.
Essentially, Coppelia revolves around Franz and Swanhilda as two promised lovers.
Coppelia is the mannequin creation of Dr. Coppelius’s mystical workshop. She sits on the balcony everyday and Franz becomes enchanted by her beauty, much to Swanhilda’s dismay.
A cacophony of mischief takes place in the mystical workshop when Swanhilda and her friends sneak into the workshop, Franz climbs through the window and Dr Coppelius returns. Surprises unfold and true love is united.
Interesting, don’t you think? Well, I’m not really familiar with the story cuz the only ballet that I am familiar with is the Sugarplum Fairy and The Nutcracker and The Swan Lake, but I thought the performance ought to be interesting with such a light-hearted storyline.
