Looking for a place to indulge in some Penang or Kedah food? Here’s one place I can recommend; Rasa Utara in Berjaya Times Square KL. They are offering various authentic Northern Malay delights.

Checked out their menu and discovered that they are offering set meals at a reasonable price. Picked out one and ordered their chef’s recommended; Set Nasi Utara, consisting of Nasi Utara, ayam masak merah, fish crackers and sup bergedil on the side. Pretty much a wholesome meal. Good for those who wants abit of everything.

Nasi Utara can be ordered individually or in a set.

Nasi Jagung. Basically this is rice cooked with corns. Goes well with individual dishes on Rasa Utara’s menu.

Ikan Menari is one of the Chef’s recommended in Rasa Utara. A must try if you like fish dishes.

Udang Asam Goreng is highly appetizing and great to be had on it’s own or with rice.

Udang Sambal Petai is a must order if you like spicy dishes. A forewarning though, the dish is very spicy and not to be taken on it’s own.

Ayam Goreng Cili Lagenda is also another one of the chef’s recommended. Not too shabby for a mere humble chicken dish.

Daging Masak Hitam  Goes well with rice, or if you please, with crusty bread as well.

Mee Rebus was bursting with flavour and was topped generously with condiments.

This Laksa.Kedah The laksa soup is not only thick and have no traces of fine fish bones in it but it’s sweetly flavoured with bunga kantan as well. A must order if you’re to patronize the restaurant.

Satay  was sufficiently flavoured. An okay dish but lack the charcoal aroma. I guess street ones always beat restaurants’ satay.

; Ais Batu Campur is definitely something  needed after all the spicy dishes, so be sure to order one.

There’s plenty of signature dishes I haven’t managed to try in Rasa Utara and definitely would be making a revisit back there for more northern-Malay delicacies.
