As some of you might know, my son had autism and can be considered non-verbal. His communication and social skills is severely limited. At best, it’s mostly echolalia and very basic. As of late, my wife has been reporting to me that the boy has been complaining alot whenever they’re out on a long shopping spree or jungle trekking, and she’s been suspecting that there’s something wrong with the shoes that our son has been wearing and said that it’s best that we get him a pair of a more comfortable shoes that caters to his physiological needs better.
We’ve long heard about the Sunfeet International Rehab Centre in Petaling Jaya; a centre that offers services like foot biomechanical assessment, knee assessment, posture assessment as well as diabetic foot assessment and so we decided that it’s time we check it out, seeing the boy’s complaints about his feet aching is getting more and more frequent. The centre provides patients with professional consultation for great halfway house programs and rehabilitation in areas such as occupational therapy, sports rehabilitation, prosthetics, podiatry, orthotics, pedorthics and physiotherapy.
We were pleasantly surprised that upon our visit, we discovered that they are having the Back to School promo. What coincidence. Abit too early for school supplies shopping considering that school holiday is just starting, but better early than late.
Sunfeet International Rehab Centre is not just about selling health shoes but also help you to analyze your feet so that you will be able to pick the right footwear for you. Here’s my son, checking out some of the shoes on display.
In the picture are a part of the shoes on offer for the ‘Back to School’ promo. They are mostly school shoes and casual sports shoes. Not only the designs are smart, but they are created to cater to long hours wearing and all day comfort as well. It sounds pretty much like what we need for the boy, definitely.
Free feet consultation is given here and therefore, we decided to go on ahead with the scanning before picking out the shoes for the boy.
During the consultation session with the experts at Sunfeet International Rehab Centre, we’re informed of the common problems with our feet.
Here’s the expert at Sunfeet International Rehab Centre scanning my son’s feet to help him determine the type of shoes I should be buying for him to ensure maximum comfort all day long.
I was informed that my son’s feet are apparently a little bit on the flat side and extra support is needed. Flat feet means that the feet does not have proper arch to support the body weight, and therefore it needs to be corrected as soon as possible before it got worst.
Here are some of the shoes that were suggested to us.
This shoe functions to correct the flat feet problem and at the same time, maximize comfort while wearing the shoes for long walks.
Happy feet, happy kids, they say and I surely hope it will be the case soon.
A pic with Dr.Edmund Lee before we left the centre. He shared some tips on picking the right shoes and here’s sharing with you too, should you ne interested to get a pair for your kids as well:
1. Buy shoes in the evening because our feet expands the most at that time
2. Suitable shoes are shoes that can be inserted two fingers behind the shoes and the front of the shoe. This is to allow for a space for our feet growth.
3. Try both side of the shoes and walk with them to make sure they are comfortable.
