the specs is already fixed, they won’t upgrade the current model.
but they r releasing new models with higher spec, but of course, higher price as well.

thanks a lot, man! i realized that 99% of the time i only used my laptop for word processing and surfing the net. im just a commuter so i decided to lighten up my heavy backup when going to work. but i do hope that the specs of these machines will become higher in the next few months. hehehehe!

but b4 buying these mini laptops, u must remember, their spec is quite low, it is designed for school children use and also for ultra mobility only, so u cannot expect good speed from them. if u just using them for online and for travel, they r good enough. but if u gonna use them for multimedia, they are not good enough for that yet.

thanks for enlightening me, garfield. im planning to buy an HP mini or Asus eee 1000 netbook before december. ill save a lot of money by using ubuntu on these machines. no need to worry about those nasty malwares. hehehehe!

yes, correct, linux doesn’t need antivirus at all.
those malware in the wikipedia list is no longer exist nowadays, and they only will be able to be loaded into the system due to the user careless to authorize them to run.

as long as u dun simply authorize unknown apps to run, you are safe from all malware in linux.

for the avast antivirus for linux, there is actually avg antivirus for linux as well. they are not build for linux actually, they are built for scan emails attachment on email hosting servers to avoid those windows users get effected. for desktop linux users, those antivirus is not necessary as you are not hosting an email server.

and yes, it is ashame that windows still have this virus problem after so long, virus been always a problem for windows, while for Mac, Linux & BSD users, we never need to worry about virus.

for the youtube video u see, actually virus or worm or any malware is able to be written easily. any software that bring harm to the system’s data can be considered as malware/virus. i still have some virus i written long time ago and they r not yet detected by any antivirus yet. but they only able to run in “Windows”

oh WUBI is not a real ubuntu installation, now i know…

about the antivirus. when i was looking on the web on how to install the RealPlayer, i ran into a website where the discussions are antivirus for ubuntu. i read that ubuntu doesnt need an antivirus, but as a precaution, i installed it even though i dont know if the program really works. but avast made it for linux OS. is it possible to make a virus program that will affect ubuntu?

i also search the web on how to make a virus and some of them are in YouTube. are those viruses demonstrated in YouTube are real viruses? if that so, then thats one of the major problems of windows, viruses are easily made. tsk! tsk! tsk!

install using WUBI is actually not real install to the hard disk yet. it is running on a virtual drive.

what i mean is, if u used the cd to install from the Live CD session, u can make it fully take over the hard disk and the OS selecting will not be windows ones, it will be the GRUB boot loader and it is fully running on Linux without windows in the PC.

but since you are comfortable with WUBI installation, it is better of u use it as it is now, coz you will need to use windows a lot for other software or games also.

anyway, why you install avast antivirus in linux?
linux don’t need antivirus, no virus will be able to run in the linux environment.

i dont know the word “running natively” and if the installation i did is running natively on my laptop. i didnt used a CD, just the Nero ImageDrive. i think it is now installed in my hard disk because during boot up, i can choose what OS i am going to used without any CD. i have already installed Avast antivirus, RealPlayer and 23 other applications and games in my ubuntu. i also have installed ubuntu on my office desktop computer via USB flash disk through Nero ImageDrive.

this installation method is just running natively only.

if u decided to totally use ubuntu, u may install it into the hard disk and let it use the entire hard disk.

but 1st, u need to burn the image into the cd-r 1st.

i tried to burn the latest version of ubuntu through nero but i have already wasted 5 CDs because all the burning attempts failed. but i saw something at the nero tools, it is called a Nero ImageDrive. when checked it on the net, i discovered that it is a virtual drive. so i enabled the virtual drive and install ubuntu from this virtual drive. and luckily, it did! alright!!! ubuntu has a very nice layout graphics featuring a heron bird. i tested the built in mozilla and successfully surfed through the net. when i tried to update some of its components, my laptop ran out of memory. so i tried to transfer my files to a portable hardrive and tried to uninstall some of the programs i never used. i was surprised that ubuntu can also be uninstalled from the add/remove programs of microsoft windows. now, i need to buy a larger capacity hard drive to accommodate ubuntu. its hard to believe that ubuntu, which is laced with plenty of very useful software, IS ABSOLUTELY FREE!
