DNS Path

Some of you who did follow my tweets or my Facebook updates, might already know what happened.
Last week, when I was trying to access to some of my websites, I am not able to reach the website.
At first, I thought it was the VPS overload again, since I use the VPS for too many websites and technically, I am abusing the VPS like how people is playing SM. Lol

But when I try to access this blog, hey! This site is still up! The VPS isn’t down and I am able to ssh into the VPS when I directly ssh to this VPS’s IP. And I checked the VPS load, it is only less than 0.8. So it means the VPS is ok. When I tried to access a few more websites that hosted in this same VPS, there is a few other domains is unresolvable. I immediately try to switch my network setting and try to use Google DNS(8.8.8.8) to access those domains that is unresolvable. Amazingly, I am able to reach the websites without problem. So I had confirmed that there is something wrong with the Streamyx DNS.

I called up Streamyx and made a report. Then to make the issues to solve sooner, I called up one of the Streamyx technician I who I know and told him about this. Then he requested me to send the list of domains and the VPS IP so that he can check. He then told me it could be their DNS server having some issues and they will take a look on it. Around less than a week time, all the issues was solved and those websites are able to be access again.

At first, I though that my domains were null routed, since the first domain I find out that is unable to access is my web hosting billing site, where my web hosting, VPS and Dedicated Server clients pays their invoice at that site. I thought it was a sabotage. But then, when I find out that even some of my private sites which is not expose to the public, are also unreachable, so it means it could be some other reason, not a sabotage.

I was so frustrated during the time where the domains is unable to be access. One of the main reason is because a few of the websites that is unreachable is those websites which is very very important to me. Although I am able to access to the websites via Google DNS, but not other people. They might thought that the websites had closed down!

But anyway, since the issues was resolved, I am happy about it already.
No more stress on fear of unable to receive payment, or frustrated of worrying that my other websites is not able to reach by its visitors.

Gnome DNS Setup

WTF Is DNS?
Ok, for those who do not know what the fuck I am talking about, you may read this part.
This part will explain WTF is DNS and why is it so important to a website.

Ok, please take a look on the first picture of this article. There is “Requested Web Server”, “Root DNS Servers”, “ISP DNS Servers” and the last ones is “Web User”.

Requested Web Server: It is the server where the website you are trying to access is hosted. Usually, it do have its own DNS service to allow the web masters manage the domains pointed to that server in order to create sub domains, point the sub domains to other server etc.
Root DNS Servers: The DNS servers that is holding the records about where is the domain name(.com, .net,.org, and .wat-ever-lah) is pointed to. Usually the records is set to be pointed to an existing name server that had already been setup by the web hosting provider. But in some case, like mine, I pointed my domains to a 3rd party DNS server, then from the 3rd party DNS server, I create A records(IP) and point to my VPS and other servers.(I think I’ll just skip this part, coz it will be very very long if I only focus on this part.)
ISP DNS Servers: This DNS server is the DNS servers which is run by the ISP. In this case, it is Streamyx. Each ISP have their own DNS servers. But you can choose to use 3rd party DNS servers such as Google DNS or OpenDNS, as long as you know the DNS server’s IP.
Web User: Very obvious, that is you, the person who is using the internet.

How The Fuck Do It Work?
When you are trying to browse a website, usually you will type the website address in the browser, and the browser will load and show you the website right? In this process, your browser is actually sent a request to the “ISP DNS Servers” and request for the website’s IP address. It then will be routed to the “Requested Web Server” and when the “Requested Web Server” get the request, it will send back the reply to the browser with the websites which the domain is pointed to for the “Web User” to browse.

Usually, changes of the domain name’s DNS record is done via the domain name’s control panel which it is provided by the domain name registrar. Every time when a web master change the domain’s DNS, the changes will be updated to the “Root DNS Servers”. The DNS records will then fetched by the “ISP DNS Servers” to keep as a cached DNS record. Whenever a “Web User” is trying to browse to any domain, the cached DNS records will be sent to the “Web User” from the “ISP DNS Servers”.

For my case, the issues occurs at the “ISP DNS Servers” where it did not resolve my domains DNS records.
But anyway, the problems is solved now.

iTalk Whoa

TM is going to release something new, something that makes every Malaysia Internet users having more convenient moment while using the Internet. TM named this service as iTalk Whoa! I am lucky to be able to get some information about this service and share with you all.

From the details I have, it is basically a web portal service at http://www.italkwhoa.com which consist of several important components.
They are:
1. Instant Messaging
2. Email
3. Calendar/Organizer
4. Contact Address Book
5. Microblogging (Twitter)
6. VOIP
7. SMS

This article will be just a brief introduction only, I am going to write more details for each components of the iTalk Whoa! after I had totally tested all the components of it.

It is running as a web portal, so you do not need to download anything to install it before using it. All you need is just your web browser and a Internet connection. Of course, some of the components in the iTalk Whoa! such as the VOIP function do need you to have the Flash plugin installed for your web browser. I think it is not a problem installing Flash since everyone also have Flash installed for their web browser to watch Youtube.

Here is the components information I am able to share with you all according to the information I obtained.

Instant Messaging:
I am sure that some of you do heard before TM’s instant messaging service which is called Mojikan a.k.a iTalk Buddy, which it is still under beta. But I do not see anything about Mojikan in the iTalk Whoa! service. Instead, it is a very cool feature where you can link most of your instant messaging service such as Yahoo Messenger, MSM Live Messenger, Google Talk, AIM, Facebook Chat, Myspace Chat and possibly some others instant messaging networks.

It is something similar like eBuddy. But eBuddy is limited to instant messaging only, while iTalk Whoa! got more other features.

I suspect that iTalk Whoa! is running on similar type of framework like what eBuddy or Pigin IM is running, which it is capable to connect to multiple IM networks. Although it is not something new, but hey, so far I see only a few web portal is offering service like this, and the best thing is, it is “Buatan Malaysia!” Our own country product! So be proud of it!

Email:
iTalk Whoa! is also offering email service. You might think that why use iTalk Whoa! while you already have Gmail or Yahoo Mail? At first I am thinking the same thing like you. But after I read through the details, I found that it is not only a normal email service. iTalk Whoa! email service is something like an email client software, just the same like Microsoft Outlook, Evolution, Mozilla Thunderbird etc which it is capable of fetching your emails in your Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Live/Hotmail and other email services.

Besides receiving emails, you can also send emails using it and still using your existing email address such as your gmail.com or yahoo.com emails.

From what I see, it looks like it is fetching the emails from your other email accounts via POP3 protocol and sending the emails via SMTP protocol to communicate between your iTalk Whoa! account to your other emails providers.

Calendar/Organizer & Contact Address Book:
These 2 functions is also available like what you have in Microsoft Outlook and Evolution. They do the same thing like Microsoft Outlook and Evolution. So it means you can use it as organizer to do your schedule, mark your appointments etc. Just the same like what you can do with Google Calendar.

And for the contact address book, it is for you to manage your email contacts where it will also be useful when you are sending email via the iTalk Whoa! portal. Not only that, you can also use it to store phone numbers for use with the iTalk Whoa! Voice(VOIP). Just click the contact name, and you can either send email to your friend or call them via the Internet.

On top of that, you can even synchronize you mobile phone’s contacts, phone numbers, email address(if you using a 3G phone), as well as your mobile phone’s calendar/organizer information.
Of course, if you are using old phone like Nokia 3310, you can’t sync the data. But for the new phones, are can sync your data easily to your iTalk Whoa! account.

Blackberry and iPhone users will definitely enjoy this a lot.
Hey wait! Even my Nokia 7373 Armour Limited Edition and my Motorola C380 dinosaur colour screen phone is also capable of doing the sync.
Lol

VOIP/SMS:
Yes, something similar to Skype. I’m sure a lot of you been used Skype before and don’t need me to explain what it is. As you all know, when you make phone call to mobile phones and land line, you will need to pay for it with the credit that you have paid as prepaid credits. Same goes to iTalk Whoa!

And same as Skype, you can also SMS to mobile phones via iTalk Whoa!

Microblogging (Twitter):
A lot people nowadays is twittering via 3rd party softwares like Gwibber, TweetDeck etc.
Therefore, Twitter is an important things to be integrated into this iTalk Whoa! as well, since it is a Twitter world now.
Same as other 3rd party Twitter softwares and web application, iTalk Whoa! should be using API call to link between your iTalk Whoa! account and your Twitter account.

So, you can also read any tweets updates as well as post your tweets to Twitter inside iTalk Whoa! as well.

Conclusion:
A lot of these other applications like Outlook, Gwibber, Skype, TweetDeck, Thunderbird etc need you to download and install their software before you can use them. And each of these software installation only give you 1 feature only, such as Gwibber, TweetDeck is only capable for Twitering. Skype is only capable of VOIP, SMS and instant messaging within its own network only. Outlook, Evolution is only for email, calendar/organizer only.

While for iTalk Whoa!, it is a group of web applications under a web portal.
All above services is unified at the same place.
And nothing needs to be installed for using it. Of course, a web browser and Flash plugin is a must.
But hey, no need to install a lot things to use several services. This is something good.

Anyway, this service is meant to be target to Windows users only as it only able to run properly on Internet Explorer 6 or above only. So it means Linux/BSD/Unix or MacOS users will not be able to enjoy this service.
I’ve tried to load the site via Firefox with useragent switcher and masking as Internet Explorer, but it is not able to load. It seems like it is dependent on certain components of Internet Explorer.

Anyway, I will try to get more information about this iTalk Whoa! and share with everyone.
Once I get it, I will post it here!

fuck you

This is the part 2 of “Fuck You!” article.
I fuck off people not enough yet. In fact, there is still a lot more things I wanted to fuck people off!

Now, I want to fuck off these sohai who refuse to accept something new to them and refuse for accept something that they think it is not a trend for them. And also, when they see boycotting something is a trend, they just follow without really experiencing those things them self.

First, I wanted to talk about operating systems for your PC.
If you read my blog long enough, you will see that I did write a lot things about Linux. Not just about Ubuntu Linux itself only, also about other distributions of Linux as well as various of BSD unix systems.

You there, the one who reading this now. You are using Windows to read this article now right? You are actually using something that carrying virus to reading this. For those who are using opensource operating systems, bravo to you.

Linux has been available for download for use since 1998, or earlier. At least, when I started to know and learn about Linux, it was 1998, during Red Hat Linux 6.2.
A lot of people, especially Malaysian and Singaporean, they think Linux is just something very new and just appeared recently. If thats the case, fuck you!

Linux is evolved from the old Unix, something which is long exist before Windows 1.0. So if you want to talk about the operating system history, it is even much older than Windows.

Originally, Unix/Linux was more used on servers. And started around year 2000, it started to also focus on desktop. And now, Ubuntu which it is founded by Canonical, had succeeded this purpose nowadays.

A lot of morons think that all servers in the world is running on Windows Server. And again, fuck you lar idiot! My server here which is running this website is running on Debian Linux. If you say only my website is running on Linux, and others is not, then fuck you again. No need to say much, I just show you some examples. Google is running on Linux, Twitter, Facebook, Yahoo, Blogspot, they are all running on Linux and BSD Unix.

If you thinking that I am talking something baseless without evidence, then here is the evidence.

Guess what? Even the ADSL modem/router you are using now is running on Linux, and there is no modem/router is running on Windows at all. Funny to say this, but in Microsoft headquarters them self, the network products that they are using, it is also running Linux/Unix also. lol

Now, back to talk about your desktop.
A lot people keep on saying that Linux desktop is sucks.
Then tell me, how exactly that Linux is sucks?
It can’t run the Windows games and programs that you want? Windows too can’t run Linux’s games and programs. But fortunately, due to too much people over fancy for Windows, this is why a lot of software developers compiles a Windows versions for these Windows users. And most of these software is opensource.

Undeniable, Windows is good for entertainment like playing games and watch movies.
But hey, I can also watch DVDs in my Linux desktop, and it loads damn nice some more.
95% of the people who are actually saying Linux is sucks, is actually those people who never used Linux before, and in fact, most of them didn’t even see Linux before. What they comment about Linux is actually just from words of those people who over fancy for Windows. And then they just take it as real and retransmit the stupid fake message.

Therefore, I hope that all these morons will change their fucking mindset, use it and test it them self before talk and give any comments.

These morons always think that something which is free is not good, and something that is expensive only good. For that, I say, fuck you!
Linux is free in terms of price, and the source code is available to be download by everyone for free.
But who made those codes? Everyone did. The developers contributed codes is selected carefully and chosen the best to be compiled into the actual release version. Therefore, you do not even need to worry about the possibilities of any malicious codes is embedded in it. On the other hand, for Windows, no one besides the Microsoft developers them self actually see any part of the codes before. This is why whenever a security hole was found, no one except Microsoft them self is able to fix the security issue.

So in other words, free and opensource software is free in terms of cash. But it was paid in form of effort and contribution from the developers who contributed their part of codes. Also, opensource softwares and operating systems is formed by comments and bugs reports from all users who submitted their reports or complaints to make them works better in the next version. So Linux is only free of charge in terms of cash, and it was paid by everyone in the form of effort and supporting spirit.

I am not trying to condemn Microsoft or anyone who do not know anything about Linux in this article. But just telling you all to change the mindset to accept something new to you if it is something good. Change your mindset to test something before you even comment about it. And stop become the fucking slave of the trend!

And there is something I very pissed off with those people to upgrade ther PC’s operating system from XP to Vista or Windows 7 without even care about the compatibility issues and any advantage. These sohai all just want to have something new and trendy in their PC.
Now I wanted to ask you, what is the benefit of changing your XP to Vista, Windows 7 beside they are something new? Security issues? You are just using a desktop where got nothing confidential inside, who care to hack you PC?

Upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 is acceptable due to Windows 7 is actually enhanced and bug fix version of Vista with a but GUI enhancement. It is acceptable for upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 due to Vista has too much bugs and memory leak problems. But the matter of facts, those who wanted to upgrade to Windows 7 is just wanted to have something new, and these morons do not even know that there is memory leak issue with Vista!

If your current operating system able to do all the things you need, then just stick to it lar, why upgrade to newer version where you are not using a server? Server need to be upgraded is because of people wanted to make sure the security issue was fix and secure the server from getting hack and losing classified information. For your desktop, who cares even if you have your naked picture inside? No one will even know you are that stupid to put your naked picture in your PC lar! You are not Edison Chen or Gillian Chung lar!

edison scandal

If you concern so much about your PC’s security, then use Linux lar. Using a server grade operating system will ensure your PC is having equivalent security like server.
Desktop version of Windows will not be as secure as the Windows for servers, this is how Microsoft make money form those people who fancy about Windows servers, although Windows servers is still not as secure as Linux/Unix servers.

Ok, it seems like this part 2 of the “Fuck You” is too long, so I will continue at my next article “Fuck You! Part 2B – Fuck You Lar! Idiots!” Which is actually directly continue from this part 2 of the “Fuck You!”

fuck you

You might wonder why this article’s title is called “Fuck You”.
After much consideration, I found that this 2 words is the most perfect for this article.
Since I am going to criticize majority of the Malaysian’s stupid mindset, I will say vulgar words a lot in this article. If you don’t like, then fuck off and don’t bother to continue to read.

First, I am going to talk about our country’s economy, politics and anything regarding our current living environment.

  • So my first question to you, do you know who is our prime minister now?

I’m sure a lot people can get the answer right, especially older peoples. But also, there is a lot of idiots will answer “Abdullah Badawi” or even worse, “Mahathir”.
This part I will fuck off these idiots who give wrong answer.
Why do I need to fuck these people off when give wrong answer? Very simple, you’ve been living in this country so long, and do not even know what the fuck is going on to the country. You dare to say you a Malaysian ar? Fuck you lar!

You might say whats the big deal of not knowing these?
Then do you know that if you know nothing about the current economy situation and current politic situation, even when the country turn upside down, you will still not knowing what happened when you are required to pay more for your petrol, foods and other necessities?

I remember when I was still a student last time, I was talking to a few of my campus mate. To be accurate, my seniors. One of them do not even know why the “Roti Telur” raise price. That time the egg price was suddenly raise a lot. And when we told him that egg has raise price, guess what he said? He go and say “it is something that for adults to concern, we children no need to care about it”. And guess what? He was a repeat student who failed to clear his paper and his is already 24 years old that time. But hopefully, now he started to care about all this, as he is no longer a children anymore. For your information, he is one of the famous magician in KL and had appeared on the TV for a lot times already, although he is a graphic design graduates.

In fact, not only this feller thinks like that. The facts is, there is too much young people thinking like this nowadays, this is why some certain party of the politic take advantage on these people who does not even care about politic and get their votes from all these idiots, even though they are not doing their work well during their terms.
*To ISA, please read properly that I do not mention any political parties and or mention about any politician’s name. So this article shall not be use against me for any legal actions.

A lot of young working people also fall to these category of idiots, they work just for the sake of spending on what they like. Not much of them work for really support them self and support a family, not much of them keep the money for their future plans. These big spenders usually do not even give a damn on what happened to the country or politic. To them, they just think of their own desire. When things raise price, they reaction is just “Oh raise price already ar?”, not asking about they reason of raise price.
When comes to the election days, they vote without using their brain. They just vote to whoever is currently ruling without even care hows the MP is doing their work during their terms. And surprisingly, these people don’t even know how good or bad their area’s MP is doing work, coz they don’t even know who is their area’s MP.

You might say, things raise price is out of our control, coz things raise price mah. But do you think of what is the reason it raise price? A lot of the items which raise price is actually subsidize by the current ruling government, which means they subsidy is from our tax money. We pay tax for having these things price to be lower. Of course, when the government feel that the money needs to be use on other places, they can do it, but citizen who pay tax have the rights to know about it. In fact, most of the time. the government do announce where the money channel to. But it is not always channeled to the place who want and sometimes it is not appropriate. This is why the citizen who payed tax reserve the rights to voice out.

But these idiots who just accept the price raise without even know the reason, is giving the ruling party more power to channel the money to inappropriate projects. Other words, the tax we payed is used on other place already, and we did not enjoy the benefit from the tax we payed much.

So idiots, it is the time you start to follow up the current situation of the economy and the politic now! Vote to the side that you see will bring benefit to the people, not the side that is currently ruling without consider anything! The politic is not only about other people’s power, it do related with the moneys in your wallet, the moneys in your bank account!

goal

Before you read further, just want to let you know that this article is not about I hope Arsenal can get more goal in this year. Nothing about soccer club, ok?

Anyway, this article is about my plans for this year and goals I wanted to achieve. Not how many goal I want to score in soccer.
:)

Based on the achievement last year, I had made a plan for what I hope to accomplish this year.

  1. Expend my new company to another level, increase the profit.
  2. Add more servers in Malaysia data centers, increase local sales.
  3. Maintain oversea businesses (all 3 of my companies), and try to double up the revenue compare to last year.
  4. Contribute more effort in Opensource, write more articles about Opensource. Also, plan to become an IT magazine columnist where my articles can help those who wanted to learn more about Opensource. Especially on Ubuntu & Wordpress.
  5. Sponsor more web hosting for bloggers who wanted to have a self hosted blog via my “Chicken Run Project
  6. Maybe starting an Internet Radio(shoutcast) and get some people including myself to broadcast.
  7. Get a HSBB(Fiber Optic) Internet connection during June and hook it up to my current home network(mini data center at my home).
  8. Buy one more new car. But don’t know what car to buy yet.
  9. Declare war to some ass hole bloggers who do nothing but harm to people.
  10. Kick some ass of those ass holes that tried to mess with me when I am in bad moment at last year. Yeah, revenge. It is some personal & business vendetta between me and some pukimak, so you don’t need to know much about this.
  11. Point some of the domain names to blogspot where people can directly use its sub domain name as their blog URL. Details will be release in a few more days.

So far these is the only thing I can think of now.
It will be more plans and goal for me to achieve. Like what James Bond said “The World Is Not Enough”.
