One of my favourite dining place is Motorino. A pizzeria located at Level 1 of SkyAvenue. I’ve patronized Motorino a couple of times by the time of writing; both dine in and taking away their pizzas when my family and I stayed at FirstWorld Hotel but this time around it’s quite different as I get to meet with the owner of this brand, Mathieu Palombino, a Belgian-born chef and now lives in Brooklyn, New York. This meeting gave me a meaningful experience because this is where I can find out more about the secret behind the existence and success of this Motorino; the currently raved about pizzeria in Genting.

During the brief interview session with Chef Mathieu Palombino, we discovered that Motorino in Italian means a small engine. The word rino on the other hand refers to a little boy. Literally, Motorino means ‘A little engine’. According to Polombino, he has always wanted to open a pizzeria. Starting with the first Motorino at Williamsburg Brooklyn, he now owns 8 outlets in 5 major cities around the world, namely in New York with 3 branches, Manila 2 branches, Hong Kong 2 branches while Singapore and Malaysia each one branch. However, when asked if he plans on opening anymore brances, he said that so far he is comfortable with the current number. For him, the quantity of restaurants and store sizes is not a priority because the best pizza is enjoyed in the atmosphere of a small pizzeria shop. Most importantly, pizza quality and best service to the most important customers. Motorino is special as they serve only authentic Neopolitan pizzas. It is the same that you will get in Italy.

Motorino uses special flour, tomato paste and olive oil that is imported and used in all branches. It aims to preserve the authenticity of the pizzas at Motorino

Even the wood fire oven used is imported directly from Naples, Italy. So if you visit any Motorino Pizza branch, the taste is all the same. And here’s a pizzas being baked in the huge oven.

Speaking of Pizzas, this time around we had some pizza indulgence too; Pepperoni, Amatriciana and Margherita.

image

Pepperoni. A pizza topped with tomato sauce base alongside with beef pepperoni,  mozerella and pecorino cheese and accompanied with a few dash of extra virgin olive oil, and plenty of bird’s eye chillies.

Amatriciana. Tipped chicken sausage, scallions and some fresh bird’s eye chillies on it.

Margherita. Topped with fresh tomato sauce, chewy mozzarella cheese, some fresh of basil on a crispy crust oiled with extra virgin olive oil.

Roasted Chicken Wings was something that we had as side dish. But I gave this a pass in favours of the pizzas. My wife and son polished these off however. Should be really good.

Chicken meatballs. These are to die for and I kinda stole my wife’s portion after I had mine.

Prices per pizza ranges from RM48- RM64. Genting members may enjoy slightly lower price.
